Millennium Foray (Winter '99)

When: December 3-5, 1999

Final foray of the 1900s!

Where: Percy Quinn State Park, McComb, Mississippi.
The park, one of the original parks constructed by the CCC in the 1930s, consists of 1,700 acres with a lake, golf course, and nature trail. It also has primitive camping, full camping, and RV sites. Nearby, as possible foray sites, are the Copiah County WMA, Homochitto WMA, Marion County WMA, and the Homochitto National Forest. The main forest type there is mixed pine/hardwood, with red sandy soil.

Travel directions:
The park is located just off I-55 SW of McComb, MS. It is about a 1-3/4 hour drive from New Orleans or about 40 minutes north of I-12.

Guest mycologist was Dr. Clark Ovrebo of the University of Central Oklahoma, an expert on Gulf Coast and tropical fungi.

Table walkaround: Identification of specimens collected during the foray was ongoing throughout the weekend.
