Our Mission Continues...
FREE YOUTH
WORKSHOP DAY
March 27th, 2010
12:00 NOON - 5:00 PM
Paynes Prairie State Preserve
Hello all young
fiddlers, and musicians! The Sawgrass Fiddle Association is in the
process of finalizing a March 27th FREE Workshop Day for youth. I know the
young-uns are out there playing with great heart and love of music. It has been
a treat to hear some of them play.
Last May's FSFA Youth/Junior State Fiddle Contest at the Florida Folk Festival
brought out several former Sawgrass Fiddle Contestants, as well as some new
faces to the stage. As the MC of the contests, I was fortunate to hear each tune
played sweetly by such talented youth. One could tell it was the love of the
music, and it's fascinating traditions that enabled a young person on stage
playing a jig, waltz or hardcore Bluegrass tunes to a crowd of people. Bravo!
There are many festivals and venues out there where young people can be found
playing their instrument with others. Grown-ups. . . keep up the
support.
