HOW TO VOTE FOR A WRITE-IN CANDIDATE

The fee to run for Governor is over $8,000 to run as a member of a political party, and over $5,000 to be on the ballot as an independent.  Therefore I chose to run as a write-in candidate.  This makes it a little bit more difficult to make your vote count.

For any write-in vote to count, the candidate must be qualified by the Division of Elections.  A write-in vote for Mickey Mouse will not count (unless Mickey Mouse is qualified!).  Hal Johnson IS a qualified write-in candidate and his votes will count.

At the bottom of the list of gubernatorial candidates on your ballot will be an option labeled “Write in”.  Though the candidates that paid the fee to run are shown with both the Governor and Lieutenant Governor’s names, it is only necessary to enter the name of the Governor candidate for a write-in vote.  In fact there is only one line on the ballot to enter the name.  If you write in my qualified Lieutenant Governor candidate Tim Hayes below the line, it will count, but is not necessary.

The name must be written in with the exact spelling of the qualified candidate.  In my case that is HAL JOHNSON.  It must also be legible to be counted, so please print carefully!
