Oregon State wins its first baseball championship (also the first for coach Pat Casey), behind Kevin Gunderson's NCAA record 20th save. Oregon State is the the first northern, not to mention northwestern, team to win the CWS in a long time. Their #4 ranking in the pre-tournament ISR is clearly more indicative of their quality and their #30 ranking in Boyd's estimate of the NCAA's RPI.
The seedings and standings are structured to reflect the fact that we have, in effect, a structure identical to a pair of regionals feeding into a best-2-of-3 super regional for the championship.

produced by Boyd Nation after the regionals is under ISR',
while that before regional play is listed under ISR.
The RPI is also from before regional play started.
