2019 Results

Vanderbilt is the 2019 National Champion, taking 2 out of 3 from Michigan.

Texas Tech and Louisville are both eliminated at 2-2 as Michigan and Vanderbilt both enter the championship series undefeated. The final series starts Monday, June 24, after a full day of rest for both teams.
Florida State and Mississippi State are the next teams eliminated at 1-2.
Arkansas went 0-2 and BBQ to become the first team eliminated, followed by Auburn after a major weather delay.

Although I try to minimize commentary on this site, I would be remiss in my duties if I did not document that Mike Martin is closing out his 40th year as head coach at Florida State with his 17th appearance in the CWS.

It is remarkable that his teams have made the tournament 40 times in his 40 years of coaching with at least 40 wins in each of those years. This season was the closest call, as FSU did not get to 40 wins until after the NCAA tournament started. To be frank, I did not expect them to make the tournament at all. In my opinion, they only got in because of subjective factors. The committee overlooked some awful loses to unranked teams because of some brilliant wins over much higher ranked opponents. What FSU did during Regional and Super Regional play rewarded that confidence. Again, in my opinion, one of the reasons FSU has an 0-17 record under him in the CWS is that his coaching got them much further in the tournament than one would otherwise expect, but he didn't make quite as much out of his best teams than others would have. I'll live with that. Martin's record now stands at 2029-736-4. It has been my pleasure to see at least one of those wins in each of those 40 seasons even though, for the record, I am not a diehard FSU fan.

The standings are organized to reflect the fact that we have, in effect, a structure identical to a pair of regionals feeding into a best 2-of-3 super regional for the championship. The seeding numbers indicate the national seeding of the team in each of the original regional pairs. For details of how these teams got here, visit my regional results page.

Standings have been reordered to reflect results.

Records are from after the Super Regionals, before CWS. Only the Collegiate Baseball poll was updated after the regionals (on 6/4 and on 6/11). Baseball America has not updated its poll since 5/27, the end of the regular season.
The ranking produced by Boyd Nation before regional play (5/27) is listed under ISR, while that after the Super Regionals is under ISR'.

Bracket Results

# indicates the home team because I list these brackets with the higher seed on top.

Home team initially goes to the team with the higher national seed. For those seeded 1-8,
which are indicated with an N in these tables, it is obvious who should be the home team.
Teams with a lower (9-16) national seeding are not flagged here, so you need to look
back at the regional results to see if a 1 seed from
the lower half of a regional pairing got through. There were none this year.
I assume they use the regional seeding (2 for Auburn and 3 for both Michigan and FSU)
if that proves necessary at the start, but after that I think it is done by who has been
the home team more often with a coin flip to break a tie.
