Went back to the airport after a rest for quite a while with the battery. Ray Buskus, Ben (from A Battery) and myself are on fifty caliber. Don 't seem to give a darn for anything anymore. Let them come
November 14
Washing Machine Charlie was over and dropped a few bombs. Little damage. Hope to be leaving soon. Played pinochle with Ray till dark. Sat up and talked till about 10:00. Had the guard from 10:00 till 12:00. Charlie ( Jap) was over about 4:00 a.m.

December 13
No air raid today, but Washing Machine Charlie was over and dropped a few bombs. Killed seven men in a mess tent.
December 14
Left the airport with Ray Euskus and expected to leave, but the ship wasn't loaded, so we wait till tomorrow. Can 't get off here too quick to suit any of us. Washing Machine Charlie was over and dropped a couple of bombs.
December 15
Left Guadalcanal aboard the U.S. American Legion. Had two torpedoes fired at our fan tail, both missed. Sub was sunk . Am sleeping on the deck, beneath a life boat, Bert Smith, Charlie Burnite and self. Mighty glad to leave the island.
