The Old Garrett Mill Today

15 Aug 03

It was a hot humid day in the muddy woods down by the banks of the old millstream. Briars and tangled underbrush blocked the way, mosquitos and spider webs were everywhere as I struggled through the thicket.

Suddenly ahead, I could see the rusted tin roof.

As I approached the old mill, I could see the east side of the building had collapsed.

Around back, the exterior appeared pretty much intact.

Crouching, I entered beneath the shady entrance to the old building.

Underneath the building, I found one of the old millstones.

The hopper, which received the corn and fed it to the big millstones for grinding.
