Selecting a Persian Cat for Show

Selecting a Persian cat show is difficult for the experienced breeder.  Kittens selected can fail to mature into show quality adults.  Young adults may not have the personality to work well in the show hall environment.  Remember this is at best stressful to the cat.  Exhibitors must use good sense when selecting and showing a cat.  If the cat feels unsafe, it may not show well.  A normally shy cat may not be a good choice for show.  Look for an out going very social cat to use for show.  Easy to handle is very important if you want the Judges to like the cat and even more important to your stress level when showing the cat.

Look for a Persian that meets the published show standard for the association you are registering and showing the cat.

Look for good coat color and length.

Look for a laid-back personality.

Finally, remember that the Judge is the final decision maker.  Everyone will have an opinon but the Judge's decide who wins and who looses in the show hall.  Presentation for a Persian is very important.  If you don't know how to groom, learn.  Practice and ask questions, especially from the breeder that bred your show cat.  Different colors groom differently so learn to recognize the differences and work with each coat uniquely to get the results the Judges want for winners.

Also, all Judges are not the same.  you will find some will like your cat and some will like another.  This is the subjective element that exhibitors must accept.

Finally, GOOD LUCK!
