Odor Control
The following is based on the experience of
Camelot Cats and should not be taken as a specific recommendation for
anyone
to use arbitrarily. Always, contact your local Veterinarian for
specific
advice on the care and treatment of you pet. Camelot Cats accepts
no responsibility for others using the following information and
specifically
recommends that only a Veterinarian should be consulted for unique care
and feeding of a pet.
There are two types of Persians; male and female. Typically,
the male has a more noticeable odor than the female. However, the
need to control odor is universal although in degrees based on the
sensitivity
of the pet owner's nasal sensors and the amount of odor eminating from
the feline friend.
Next, it is important that everyone knows that a pet must be "fixed"
(spay or neuter). The whole cat, either male or female, is more
often
recognized by the sensitive nasal passages that its altered
counterpart.
Also, SINCE BOTH MALES AND FEMALES CAN SPRAY, it is in the owner's best
interest to get the cat fixed.
Finally, for the show breeders, your male cat is likely to spray.
This is a natural statistic and can not be eliminated from the feline
genome,
only depressed through careful breeding; not eliminated. So,
since
there is a chance, even expection the male will spray and since male
urine
is maloderous in degrees of which is always offensive, controlling odor
must be part of a good cattery strategy. Now, don't forget the
girls.
I have one, Lady Smidgeon, that sprayed just like she was one of the
boys
until we had her fixed. Now, she is just fine. The lesson
here
is that females also mark territory when in heat. The boys
usually
spray and the girls usually just squat and leave a urine stain on the
carpet.
Since Camelot Cats has travelled down all these smelly roads before
you, we offer some advice based on experience. The following is
what
Camelot Cats does to control odor.
First, we keep the cattery and all the litter boxes as clean as humanly
possible.
Second, we keep the cats in the cattery as clean as humanly possible.
Third, and extreemly important, we us a odor neutralizer called XO
and neutralizer/detergent called XO Plus.
