[Editor's NOTE: The following two posts concern the fraudulent accusations by Texe Marrs against James White and Mr. White's rebuttal to these accusations. These false accusations and attempts at smearing Mr. White's character came as a result of an incident that took place on the John Ankerberg program (of which James White was a participant) which Texe Marrs inaccurately reported in his newsletter "Flashpoint." Mr. Tsai originally posted this via Usenet newsgroups without ever attempting to contact Mr. White. It should also be noted that Mr. Marrs never attempted to contact James White nor any of the participants of this debate before writing his original inaccurate "report" as well as this fraudulent followup. Mr. White on the other hand, has made numerous attempts to contact Texe Marrs, but Mr. Marrs has rejected all his attempts with ridicule and scorn. One minor point needs to be made concerning Mr. White's reply. Since Mr. Tsai never sent a copy of this to Mr. White, the post was forwarded to James White via another computer network via a Texe Marrs proponent Doug Snead. Mr. Snead placed one minor, yet inflammatory, comment in Mr. Marrs' "report" of which Mr. White erroneously attributed to Mr. Marrs. James White has admitted that he erred in attributing the comment to Mr. Marrs in this "report" however he did show where Texe Marrs had made such an accusation in the past.] ---==(0)==--- [Editor's NOTE: This was obtained from a posted message on the Fidonet echo OPEN_BIBLE by Doug Snead upon Mr. Tsai's request.] From: Wei Kang Tsai Subject: Texe Marrs on JW The following statements were written by Texe Marrs in the letter he sent to me. Brother Marrs mentioned that I could publish his letter in the internet. Well, at first I did not want to do so. Now, I feel that the short article is worth publishing. I now fully understand why brother Marrs called him "devil" and brother Ruckman called him "dear apostate." I have a hard time resisting calling him the same now. --------------------The article by Texe Marrs-------------------- About James White (1) Mr. White calls his organization "Alpha and Omega Ministries." This must be very confusing and embarrassing to him when people ask him about Revelation 1:11. You see, most of the satanic and confused new Bible translations Mr. White so avidly supports have butchered Revelation 1:11 and stripped the correct wording as found in the King James Bible. In the King James, we read Jesus Christ's glorious declaration, "I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last..." But--get this!--the false new versions shamelessly delete the very words "Alpha and Omega." Now, since Mr. White's organization is, strangely enough, named "Alpha and Omega," you can see what a royal problem is for him to try to explain away. I'm sure he'll desperately attempt to claim that the words "Alpha and Omega" are also found in Revelation 22:13. Fine, Mr. White, for now. But what are you going to do when the apostate Bible scholars remove these holy words from that passage as well? Just give them time, and they will, too. Nothing is sacrosanct with the new translation scholars. If they can callously omit thousands of other holy and majestic words from the King James Bible, and even convert God into "Our Father-Mother," these wicked scribes might do anything. [REMEMBER THE JESUS SEMINAR. -ds] (2) I note that Mr. White signed his report on the internet with the pompous and arrogant title, "Scholar in Residence, School of Christian Studies, Grand Canyon University." Scholar in Residence? We checked at that institution, which I'd never heard of before, and found out it does, in fact, exist. But its teeny-tiny and just begun "School of Christian Studies" has only "2, 3, or 4 instructors in staff, "we were told. And Mr. White? Well, yes, they say, he is listed as a "Scholar in Residence." But the school told us that he's not in residence, has no office on campus, and has never taught a single course there, though he's expected to do so starting next spring--in an adjunct status, however. (How curious--to claim to be a lofty "Scholar in Residence" when one is not even in residence!) (3) Mr. White has written a confusing book knocking the King James Bible. It's no doubt popular with a few, so-called "scholars" who promote the satanic, new Bible versions; but apparently, it has met with indifference and has flopped in the Christian marketplace since its release. The book was published by Bethany House, a press that, until the advent of Mr. White's "scholarly" tome, had mostly gained a measure of fame for publishing a series of romance-type, feminine, western novelettes. Mr. White's book is so bad that, in his newsletter, Dr. Peter Ruckman, a well-known proponent of the King James Bible, has actually been encouraging his readers to buy Mr. White's ill-informed error-filled book and read it. According to Brother Ruckman, once you've read and digested White's book, you'll know for sure why King James is God's only preserved Bible available today in English. I believe if it had not been for Dr. Ruckman supporting the sales of his book in this way, Mr. White's volume would really have been a marketplace bomb. (4) Mr. White's book attacking the King James Bible is endorsed by a Mr. Norm Geisler--his name is right on the cover! Now Geisler also just happens to be a strong promoter of the ungodly Catholic and Evangelicals Together document put together by Chuck Colson and apostate priest Richard Neuhaus. That's the papal-approved treatise which warns Protestants not to evangelize Catholics, among other atrocities. Why, then, did White seek and use Geisler's endorsement for his book? Let's put two and two together. First, we know that the Vatican has, since 1611, detested and assaulted the King James Bible. Understandably so, for it's the Bible used by Protestants missionaries and evangelists who have won countless lost Catholics to Christ. But we also know that the papacy loves and endorses the new, false Bible versions: Just like the ones promoted by Mr. White and Mr. Geisler! How very interesting! (5) Mr. White, unknown at the time, first began to slam Mrs. Gail Riplinger's bestselling, heavily documented book. New Age Bible Versions, a few years ago by issuing a "report" attacking it. However, Mr. White's report had to quickly be redone because, as it turned out, the brilliant "Scholar in Residence" has repeatedly misspelled Mrs. Riplinger's first name. He had it as "Gayle" rather than correctly as "Gail." (6) Mr. White reportedly lays claim to being a "Reformed Baptist." Interestingly, I've talked with many Baptist friends and they're not quite sure what a Reformed Baptist is. Now, the very liberal Dr. Robert Schuller is a proud member of the "Reformed Church," but I assume Mr. White probably isn't a Schullerite-type...or is he? I also know of some people, Reformed, whose ministers wear fancy robes and who practice Catholic-style infant baptism. Some of the Reformed are into hyper-Calvinistic doctrines and are theocratic. They utterly reject the Bible's teaching of the rapture of the church and other prophetic teachings, but I don't know if Mr. White is of this theological bent. Who knows his true doctrines other than that he definitely seems to abhor the King James Bible? (7) Recently, Mr. White was invited to debate the King James Only issue. Dr. Ruckman, president of Florida's Pensacola Bible College, tendered the invitation. But apparently, Mr. White got cold feet. he has declined to go and debate. Doesn't it seem that a "Scholar Residence" like Mr. White would jump at the chance to show off all his worldly-gained knowledge? Dr. Ruckman, of course is one of the planet's top Bible scholars: A real one, though he never has claimed to be "Scholar Residence." Dr. Ruckman also has an earned doctorate, and Mr. White does not. Could this be a factor in Mr. White's embarrassing reluctance to debate? -----------------end of the article by Texe Marrs---------------- ---==(0)==--- [Editor's NOTE: Mr. White's rebuttal was obtained from a posted message on the Fidonet echo OPEN_BIBLE by Carl Mccaskey upon Mr. White's request.] From: James White Subject: Texe Marrs on JW >------------------The article by Texe Marrs------------------ > About James White > >(1) Mr. White calls his organization "Alpha and Omega >Ministries." We note immediately that Mr. Marrs has *finally* figured out that the textual variant is at Revelation 1:11, not Revelation 1:1, as he wrote in his letters and said on KTKK radio in Austin, Texas. Please note, Mr. Marrs was invited to debate me on KTKK, and he declined. I renew my challenge to Mr. Marrs to debate publically, either on KTKK, or in live, formal debate right there in Austin. I'll be glad to come to Austin to debate Mr. Marrs on the KJV Only issue. As to Revelation 1:1, even the Hodges/Farstad Majority Text does not contain the addition. >Now, since Mr. White's organization is, strangely enough, named >"Alpha and Omega," you can see what a royal problem is for him >to try to explain away. But what are >you going to do when the apostate Bible scholars remove these >holy words from that passage as well? Mr. Marrs knows little of textual critical matters. "Alpha and Omega" has always been drawn from Revelation 22:13. It will not---and cannot--be removed, since this is the reading of the Greek manuscripts. Scholars who love God and the Bible, as myself and those who work on such fine translations as the NASB, NIV, etc., have only one desire: to give the Word of God as it was penned by the apostles, not as it was altered and added to by later scribes. Mr. Marrs knows nothing of the Greek language nor of textual criticism (a formal debate would prove this out clearly), and hence has no basis upon which to found his accusations. >Just give them time, and they will, too. Nothing is sacrosanct >with the new translation scholars. If they can callously omit >thousands of other holy and majestic words from the King James >Bible, and even convert God into "Our Father-Mother," these >wicked scribes might do anything. [REMEMBER THE JESUS SEMINAR. >-ds] It is rather funny to note Mr. Marrs' wild attempt to link conservatives such as myself with the wild and wacky Jesus Seminar. Has Mr. Marrs debated Robert Funk, the head of the Jesus Seminar, and been told by him to "go to hell", as I have? I doubt it. Mr. Marrs cannot deal with the Jesus Seminar, since he doesn't know enough about the topic to meaningfully interact with their claims. >(2) I note that Mr. White signed his report on the internet with >the pompous and arrogant title, "Scholar in Residence, School of >Christian Studies, Grand Canyon University." Scholar in >Residence? We checked at that institution, which I'd never >heard of before, and found out it does, in fact, exist. But its >teeny-tiny and just begun "School of Christian Studies" has only >"2, 3, or 4 instructors in staff, "we were told. Grand Canyon University has existed since the 1940s; the department of Christian Studies was, for most of those years, the largest part of the college until the nursing and biology departments began to grow rapidly in the late 70s and early 80s. The *department* became its own college earlier this year. The University has grown tremendously over the past few years, with the campus doubling in the number and size of buildings over the past decade. GCU is the largest Christian institution of higher learning in the state of Arizona, with a great reputation in reference to its graduates, especially in business, nursing, and biology. Mr. Marrs' ignorance of the institution speaks more to Mr. Marrs' familiarity with the educational landscape than anything else. > And Mr. White? >Well, yes, they say, he is listed as a "Scholar in Residence." A title given to those who are associated with the university while working primarily upon writing and research projects, such as I am (currently under contract for two books with Bethany House). Again, Mr. Marrs' ignorance of the title (note how he later talks about "residence" as if that refers to *living* somewhere) only speaks to his own status, nothing more. >But the >school told us that he's not in residence, has no office on >campus, and has never taught a single course there, though he's >expected to do so starting next spring--in an adjunct status, >however. (How curious--to claim to be a lofty "Scholar in >Residence" when one is not even in residence!) < chuckle > I suppose that is the best one can do with a phone call, but the person with whom Mr. Marrs spoke simply didn't recall that I had taught at the school before, specifically, I taught Church History in 1990 and 1991. But please note how Mr. Marrs and his ilk refuse to focus upon *issues* but instead go after *people.* A familiar ploy and one they *have* to use: Mr. Marrs would never agree to come out in public to debate the *issues* because, quite simply, he can't. >(3) Mr. White has written a confusing book knocking the King >James Bible. Given that the book has helped thousands of people cut *through* the confusion, calling it "confusing" may only speak again to Mr. Marrs' unfamiliarity with the most basic issues of biblical translation and transmission. And, of course, Mr. Marrs is only fulfilling my own "prophecy" found in the book on page 223. >It's no doubt popular with a few, so-called "scholars" who >promote the satanic, new Bible versions; but apparently, it has >met with indifference and has flopped in the Christian >marketplace since its release. That's why it went into its second printing within four months of its release! I'm sorry, but 18,000 copies of a book of this nature and scope in the first six months of its publication is not a flop, it's great. In fact, many non-fiction works of this type are happy to get 3000 copies sold; hence, Mr. Marrs is again fishing in the wrong pond. >The book was >published by Bethany House, a press that, until the advent of >Mr. White's "scholarly" tome, had mostly gained a measure of >fame for publishing a series of romance-type, feminine, western >novelettes. < chuckle > Mr. Marrs' ability to twist facts is a thing to behold. Walter Martin's _Kingdom of the Cults_ is a BHP publication---then again, Mr. Marrs might think that tome is a romance novel! >Mr. White's book is so bad that, in his newsletter, Dr. Peter >Ruckman, a well-known proponent of the King James Bible, has >actually been encouraging his readers to buy Mr. White's >ill-informed error-filled book and read it. Actually, Mr. Marrs should be a little more honest here: Dr. Ruckman has indeed suggested everyone get the book (for which I am most grateful); but he has also said it is the classic presentation of what Ruckman calls the "Alexandrian Creed," and Ruckman speaks of it in much higher terms that Marrs probably liked. I have taken Ruckman's article as the best back-handed compliment yet received. >According to Brother Ruckman, once you've read and digested >White's book, you'll know for sure why King James is God's only >preserved Bible available today in English. I just hope lots and lots of Dr. Ruckman's followers *will* read the book. Since my mail has run at least 20:1 in favor of the book, and since many of those folks found it helpful in getting *out* of KJV Onlyism, I can only rejoice to see others reading the book and learning more about the issue. >I believe if it had not been for Dr. Ruckman supporting the >sales of his book in this way, Mr. White's volume would really >have been a marketplace bomb. < chuckle > The book had sold 15,000 copies before Ruckman's article appeared. Again, Mr. Marrs is in outer space when it comes to his facts. >(4) Mr. White's book attacking the King James Bible is endorsed >by a Mr. Norm Geisler--his name is right on the cover! Yes, and it is endorsed by lots of other folks, too---in fact, the vast majority of the evangelical community has endorsed the book, and there's a reason for that! >Now Geisler also just happens >to be a strong promoter of the ungodly Catholic and Evangelicals >Together document put together by Chuck Colson and apostate >priest Richard Neuhaus. Again, Marrs' facts are 180 degrees off the mark. If Norman Geisler is a promoter of ECT, why didn't he sign it? And why does he criticize it in his new work on Roman Catholicism? Dr. Geisler and I don't see eye-to-eye on some of the specifics of the Roman Catholic issue, but I, unlike Mr. Marrs, have taken the time to talk with Dr. Geisler about it, and understand where he's coming from. >That's the papal-approved treatise which warns Protestants not >to evangelize Catholics, among other atrocities. Why, then, did >White seek and use Geisler's endorsement for his book? Because I, unlike Mr. Marrs, appreciate Dr. Geisler's scholarship, and don't believe that lock-step agreement with *me* is the guide for seeking someone's endorsement. J.I. Packer endorsed the book too, and I disagree with Packer strongly on the ECT document. John MacArthur endorsed the book, and he strongly disagrees with ECT. ECT is one issue, this is another. My views on Roman Catholicism are well known---but ignored by Marrs, who would hate to have to admit (even if he knew it) that I have been a most vocal opponent of Roman Catholicism over the past few years. >Let's put two and two together. First, we know that the Vatican >has, since 1611, detested and assaulted the King James Bible. >Understandably so, for it's the Bible used by Protestants >missionaries and evangelists who have won countless lost >Catholics to Christ. But we also know that the papacy loves >and endorses the new, false Bible versions: Just like the ones >promoted by Mr. White and Mr. Geisler! How very interesting! How very deluded! This kind of wild conspiratorial thinking, which ignores the huge fact that no one has debated more Roman Catholic apologists than I have, fills Mr. Marrs' other works as well, and is, quite simply (I must say with all honesty) a disgrace upon the cause of Christ. >(5) Mr. White, unknown at the time, first began to slam Mrs. >Gail Riplinger's bestselling, heavily documented book. New Age >Bible Versions, a few years ago by issuing a "report" attacking >it. As usual, Mr. Marrs is in error. In point of fact, I had written six books at the time, and had been identified as the "best critic of Roman Catholicism in the United States today" by one of the leading Roman Catholic apologists. I debated Mrs. Riplinger on a local radio program after I heard her spouting the most inane things, and shortly afterward published my notes from that program. > However, Mr. White's >report had to quickly be redone because, as it turned out, the >brilliant "Scholar in Residence" has repeatedly misspelled Mrs. >Riplinger's first name. He had it as "Gayle" rather than >correctly as "Gail." When you have little else to say, attack the inane. Since G. A. Riplinger refused to tell anyone what her first name was in her book (all of us know now why---"God and Riplinger"), I had to guess at the spelling of the name, having never seen it. Gayle was just as logical a choice as Gail. When someone informed me she signed a letter "Gail," I made the change. Think about what it means that Mr. Marrs, after being refuted on this item for over a year, has to continue to harp about it. Possibly Mr. Marrs hides from a debate because he has little more to say than this? Let the reader decide. >(6) Mr. White reportedly lays claim to being a "Reformed >Baptist." Interestingly, I've talked with many Baptist friends >and they're not quite sure what a Reformed Baptist is. Which again speaks more to Mr. Marrs' knowledge of denominations and beliefs than anything else. >Now, the very liberal Dr. Robert Schuller >is a proud member of the "Reformed Church," but I assume Mr. >White probably isn't a Schullerite-type...or is he? Mr. Marrs should take some time to learn a little doctrine, a little church history, and get his facts straight. If he'd like to know what I believe, why doesn't he read the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith? As to abhoring the KJV, again, we see the repetition of a lie. >(7) Recently, Mr. White was invited to debate the King James >Only issue. Dr. Ruckman, president of Florida's Pensacola Bible >College, tendered the invitation. We see Mr. Marrs getting his facts backwards yet once again. *I* challenged Dr. Ruckman, not the other way around. Ruckman would not agree to any kind of logical format for a debate, and then unilaterally demanded that I appear for his "April Fools Day" program, and that was it. If Dr. Ruckman will debate in a formal style in a neutral location, I'll be glad to debate him. And that goes for Mr. Marrs as well. > But apparently, Mr. White got cold feet. he has declined to go >and debate. Doesn't it seem that a "Scholar Residence" like Mr. >White would jump at the chance to show off all his >worldly-gained knowledge? > >Dr. Ruckman, of course is one of the planet's top Bible >scholars: A real one, though he never has claimed to be "Scholar >Residence." Dr. Ruckman also has an earned doctorate, and Mr. >White does not. Could this be a factor in Mr. White's >embarrassing reluctance to debate? Mr. Marrs has my challenge to debate: in fact, if he'd like to have "one of the planet's top Bible scholars" at his side, that would be fine, too. I'll debate them both, at the same time, in Austin, Texas. Here's the challenge: a three-hour debate; 25 minute opening statements, 10 minute rebuttals, seven minute rebuttals; then two questions from each side in a 1-3-2-1 format, followed by 15 minute closing statements. I've sent Ruckman tapes of how this format works from my debates against Dr. Mitchell Pacwa, a Jesuit scholar and professor at Loyola University. If Mr. Marrs wants a copy of those tapes, I'll send them to him. But, to put it rather indelicately, "put up or shut up." You have your challenge, Mr. Marrs. I have friends in Austin who would undoubtedly be glad to put me up. I'm sure they could arrange a venue, too. As I said, if you can get Ruckman, OR RIPLINGER, to join you, feel free to do so. I'll debate you both. How about it, Mr. Marrs? ********************************************** * James White, Orthopodeo@aol.com * * College of Christian Studies * * Grand Canyon University * * Director, Alpha and Omega Ministries * * http://net387.texas.net/ao.html * ********************************************** ---==(0)==--- [Editor's NOTE: As one can plainly see, Texe Marrs once again shows no regard to accuracy in his accusations and stoops to attempts of character assassination at all costs. Mr. Marrs' habit of fabrication and prevarication is evident in his accusations against James White, but fail miserably once they fall unto the light of the truth. Mr. Marrs claims to be a man of God, but with many hypocrites (Matt. 23:13-36), Texe demonstrates a distinct lack of Spiritual fruits (Matt. 7:15,16; Gal. 5:22), defiles himself through false witnessing (Matt. 15:19,20), and uses words and actions that deny God (Titus 1:16). The scriptures in the Bible are clear concerning liars like Marrs: they "are an abomination unto" God (Prov. 6:16-19); they are "wicked" (Prov. 6:12) and they "will not go unpunished" (Prov. 19:5). Pray that Texe Marrs will repent from such unChristian behavior and allow God to bring him back to the path of righteousness. Amen!]
