These are Master Gardener observations and ratings for 1995 to 1997 trial garden performance. Performance may be different under different conditions and in differerent years. Ratings are overall evaluations by Master Gardeners on a scale of 0 to 6, worst to best. Height and width are highest measured during trial, in inches.

Veronica spicata 'Blue Charm'

Veronica spicata 'Rose Shade'

1995 5 Pink-lavender blooms from mid-May through September, foliage not as healthy as 'Blue Charm'. 36 24

Vinca spp. (Perennial Vinca)

1996 4 Bright pink blooms from August thru October, medium green foliage, healthy and vigorous. 6 16

Vinca spp. 'Pacifica Punch' (Madagascar Periwinkle)

1995 6 Hot pink blooms from April through October. Very pretty, highly recommended. 30 42

Viola cornuta 'Sorbet Blackberry Cream' (Tufted Pansy)

1995 6 Dark purple and cream with yellow center, 1 in flowers bloomed until mid April. Healthy, low 8 36

maintenance.

Viola cornuta 'Sorbet Purple' (Tufted Pansy)

1995 6 Bloomed well, purple and yellow flowers in early spring, died back in June. Pretty flowers and 6 14

easy to care for.

Viola cornuta 'Sorbet Yellow Frost' (Tufted Pansy)

1995 5 Bloomed well in early spring, died back in June. Pretty flowers and easy to care for. 10 11

Viola dissecta (violet)

1996 2 Variegated light and dark green foliage, did not bloom. Healthy foliage, but it did not spread. Not 6 9

impressive.

Viola hederacea (Australian Violet)

1995 6 Continuous blooming, white with violet streaks, from early spring through the fall, attractive low 7 26

spreading ground cover, grew vigorously, but prefers cooler weather.

1996 6 Tiny purple and white blooms from May all through summer and fall. Healthy, vigorous spreading 5 58

growth, wonderful ground cover.

Viola labradorica (Labrador Violet)

1995 5 Small violet flowers for two-week period in early May, dark green attractive foliage with purplish 3 28

tint, semi-dormant in summer.

1996 2 Healthy dark green foliage, but did not bloom. Too thin for ground cover. 2.5 40

Viola parma 'Marie Louise'

1996 1 Did not bloom, serious bug damage, poor appearance. Was barely alive at end of trial. 6 17

Zantedeschia aethiopica 'Choldsiana' (Calla Lily)
