These are Master Gardener observations and ratings for 1995 to 1997 trial garden performance. Performance may be different under different conditions and in differerent years. Ratings are overall evaluations by Master Gardeners on a scale of 0 to 6, worst to best. Height and width are highest measured during trial, in inches.

1995 2 Dark rose plumes when planted and lasted a month, declined after planting, heavy insect damag 16 12

e and poor condition during summer heat.

Baptisia australis (False Blue Indigo)

1995 2 Plant did not bloom during evaluation period, slow growth, unimpressive. 18 24

1996 0 Did not bloom, declined in Fall and died. Not for heavy shade. 20 18

Barleria cristata 'Blue' (Phillipine Violet)

1995 6 Purple 2 inch blooms in October and November, healthy attractive foliage, easy to care for. 66 64

Begonia grandis (Angel Wing Begonia)

1995 5 Sparse light pink blooms from mid-June to mid- August, unusual leaf color and shape, penetratin 11 23

g sunlight creates a red glow, elegant and dramatic, went dormant in September.

Begonia semperflorens-cultorum 'Party Flirt'

1995 5 Profuse bright pink blooms from beginning of evaluation (mid-March) through May with sporadic 6 12

blooms continuing through the fall. Attractive burgundy foliage, declined significantly but

survived the summer.

1997 6 Tomatoey red flowers throughout trial, stayed healthy through heat of summer and always 24 36

looked great.

Begonia spp. (Angel Wing Begonia)

1995 3 White blooms with pink edges, started in mid-June and lasted a month, declined during summer 9 14

and was dormant in October.

Begonia spp. 'Cherry Blossom'

1995 6 Was blooming when planted in June, and continued through summer and fall, white flowers 15 16

edged in pink. Better summer performer than the other Begonias.

Belamcanda chinensis (Blackberry Lily)

1995 4 Sword-like foliage with yellow-orange flowers. Began to flower end of June, looking healthy. 24 30

1996 4 Yellow flowers in July and August, elongated leaves, vigorous and healthy. 28 40

Bosenbergia rotunda (Chinese Keys)

1995 5 Inconspicuous, but pretty pink/magenta flowers began in late July and lasted til mid September. 20 36

Medium green attractive foliage, slow to emerge in spring.

1996 3 Bloomed late July to early August, inconspicuous purple flowers, stayed healthy until late fall. 24 6

Brachycome x 'Billabong Mauve Delight' (Swan River Daisy)

1997 2 Purple-blue blooms from April to June. Trailing habit, not very showy, became scraggly in June 9 18

and died in October.

Brachycome x 'Billabong Purple' (Swan River Daisy)

1997 2 Purple blooms April thru May. Compact plant, stayed healthy until dry weather in summer. 6 12

Buddleia davidii 'Nanho Blue' (Butterfly Bush)

1995 6 Large beautiful plant with steady bloom, purple/orange flowers from May to October, easy to 90 84

grow and maintain, attracts butterflys.

Buddleia weyeriana (Butterfly Bush)

1996 4 Lavender blooms from August thru November, grey-green foliage, healthy growth. 24 40

1997 6 Bloomed continuously from May through November, exuberant growth, lovely lilac-like scent, 59 52

attracts butterflies.
