Notes and Distinguishing Characteristics: This is a very popular cultivated ginger, very showy with its orange flowers. The picture to the right was taken in my garden. Maas listed this as C. igneus in Flora Neotropica No 8, then determined in No. 18 that the earlier name was C. cuspidatus. Easily identified by the broad orange labellum with irregular "chopped" edges.

Natural Distribution: Primary forests, deep shade in southeastern Brazil.
