Development Proposed on Boggy Bay
A marina facility and residential and commerical community is proposed for an area just east of Dekle Beach. This is the area near Sweet Water Creek. The proposed marina basin would be located in primarily saltmarsh in the nearshore area adjacent to Dekle Beach. The marina basin would be approximately 28 acres in area and dredged to 6 feet below mean low water. The marina basin would include 374 wet slips, 499 dry storage units, and six 50 foot wide public boat ramps capable of serving 300 vessels per day. Other components of the marina would include a fueling facility, sewage pump-out station, an observation tower, boardwalks, a marine laboratory, an aquarium, and educational center to serve as a coastal management and scientific research center.
A 100 foot wide channel would be constructed to service the marina, ramps, and surrounding communities. This channel would extend approximately 2 miles out in a southwesterly direction through the Bid Bend Seagrasses Preserve. Approximately 704,013 cubic yards of material would be dredged for the access channel and marina basin. This would eliminate approximately 37 acres of existing special aquatic sites in the nearshore environment of the proposed marina basin and channel.
Approximately 100.81 acres of wetlands in four habitat types would be eliminated by the proposed marina, roads, and associated structures.
