Virginia came back to win the last two games and beat defending champ Vanderbilt to earn its first CWS title. Really strong run by Virginia from a rather low #3 seed for its #21 RPI. Certainly not the last team added to the field, and I never view a 3 seed as any worse than a 2 seed, but they accepted the challenge and did the job.

Arkansas went 0-2 and BBQ after a Miami walk-off single; CSU,Fullerton was also BBQ'd.
National seeds Miami and LSU were the next to go home.
National seed TCU eliminated by "second 8" seed and defending champ Vanderbilt.
National seed Florida eliminated by Virginia (3rd seed in Region 1a).

The standings are organized to reflect the fact that we have, in effect, a structure identical to a pair of regionals feeding into a best 2-of-3 super regional for the championship. The seeding numbers indicate the national seeding of the team in each of the original regional pairs. For details of how these teams got here, visit my regional results page.

Standings reordered to reflect results. Winner swaps with loser, if needed.

Records are from after the Super Regionals, before CWS. Only the Collegiate Baseball poll was updated after the regionals (on 6/2 and late on 6/8). Baseball America has not updated its poll since 5/25, the end of the regular season.

Footnote: Collegiate Baseball had Virginia unranked going into the regionals (having dropped out from 28 the week before). They jumped to 13 after the regional sweep, then #8 after sweeping their Super Regional against #14 (and previously unranked) Maryland. Collegiate Baseball always seems to rank the CWS teams from 1 to 8 whether the voters actually believe they belong there or not. We will see! (And we did. Looks like Virginia was underestimated by the NCAA and the pollsters.)

The Iterative Strength Rating produced by Boyd Nation before regional play (5/25) is listed under ISR, while that AFTER the Super Regionals is under ISR'.
