Coastal Carolina, the only team from the Big South to make the tournament, took its
first NCAA championship, taking 2 of 3 from Arizona (one of 4 teams from the Pac 12).
This is the first time that both teams played 8 games when it was over.
Parity? There are no teams from the NCAA's top 16 seeds left in the tournament this year,
although Coastal Carolina was ranked #15 in both polls before the regionals started.
But Coastal didn't get a regional bid, so they had to win a regional at NC State
(going 2 of 3 against the home team)
and sweep a Super Regional at LSU to make it to the College World Series.
Every national seeded team lost in the first round!
Miami (National #3) and Florida (National #1) each go 0-2 and BBQ.
There are no ACC or SEC teams left in the CWS this year.
UC Santa Barbara (2nd seed in Region 2a) and Texas Tech (National #5) were the next teams eliminated.
Oklahoma State (2nd seed in Region 7) was eliminated by Arizona (2nd seed in Region 6a)
TCU (a "second 8" seed) was eliminated by Coastal Carolina (2nd seed in Region 8a)
The standings are organized to reflect the fact that
we have, in effect, a structure identical to a pair of regionals
feeding into a best 2-of-3 super regional for the championship.
The seeding numbers indicate the national seeding of the team in
each of the original regional pairs. For details of how these teams
got here, visit my regional results page.
Standings have been reordered to reflect results.

Records are from after the Super Regionals, before CWS.
Only the Collegiate Baseball poll was updated after the regionals (on 6/8 and on 6/14).
Baseball America has not updated its poll since 5/30, the end of the regular season.
The ranking
produced by Boyd Nation before regional play (5/30) is
listed under ISR, while that after the Super Regionals is under ISR'.
