Mississippi wins its first national championship in baseball
with a sweep of Oklahoma in the championship series.
As one of 8 at-large teams to get in with a #3 seed in its regional,
Mississippi was one of the last teams to make the field.
They were unranked in Baseball America's top 25 and
ranked 29/30 by Collegiate Baseball.
There were 3 teams with a better pRPI that did NOT get in,
and only 3 with a worse pRPI that did.
Their ISR was 3rd worst of the at-large teams in the tournament.
Oklahoma (45-22) wins and sweeps its half of the bracket, joined in the
championship series by Mississippi (40-23) after a shutout win over Arkansas.
The best-2-of-3 series starts Saturday, June 25.
Both teams moving on to the championship finals were unseeded!
The second elimination games on Tuesday sent Notre Dame and Auburn packing.
The second round saw Texas and Stanford sent home 0-and-2-and-BBQ.
Oklahoma and Mississippi are in the driver's seat with a 2-0 record.
The first round games were all upsets with Oklahoma and Notre Dame winning
on the first day and unseeded Arkansas and Mississippi winning in the second group.
The standings are organized to reflect the fact that
we have, in effect, a structure identical to a pair of regionals
feeding into a best 2-of-3 Super Regional for the championship.
The seeding numbers indicate the national seeding of the team in
each of the original regional pairs. For details of how these teams
got here, visit my regional results page.
Standings have been reordered to reflect results.
I have changed what I put under "seed" column now that we are starting
a new decade where the top 16 teams are seeded. I no longer use the "N" to
indicate one of the top 8 national seeds. Instead, the first number
indicates which Super Regional the team came from and the second number
(if any) is the national seeding of that team.

Records are from after the Super Regionals, before the CWS.
Only the Collegiate Baseball poll was updated after the regionals,
on 6/7 (shown in a new column as CB) and also late on 6/13 (shown as CB').
[Note that Collegiate Baseball traditionally ranks the regional winners as 1 to 16
and the CWS teams as 1 to 8 regardless of where they might think they belong relative to
teams that played weaker opponents or got lucky in the previous round.]
Baseball America has not updated its poll since 5/30, the end of the regular season
and conference tournaments. I am now using "ur" rather than "--" for unranked.
The ranking
produced by Boyd Nation before regional play (5/30) is
listed under ISR, while that after the Super Regionals (6/16) is under ISR'.
