NCAA Baseball
Conference Rank
2014

This is a 'scorecard' by conference for 2014, the 16-th for the 64-team playoff system where every conference gets an automatic bid. You can find the full results elsewhere.

My original motivation for this summary was the thought that the regionals are a major source of inter-conference and inter-region play that helps one evaluate the relative strength and (possibly) future seedings of teams from various regions and conferences.

Current status:
Super Regionals are complete, with only 2 national seeds making it to CWS.

Here is the 'histogram' of the success rate for the 2014 NCAA regionals.

I tally a Regional champion under "win" and the Super-Regional champion (the team that goes to the CWS) under "champ" so the "champ" column is unchanged from the old 48-team system.

Note:
There are two major changes in the conference lineup this year, resulting in a net increase of one automatic bid (now 31 out of 64 teams). The Great West Conference, started in 2010, ended baseball after the 2013 season but never earned an automatic bid. Two of its teams are independents this year, Houston Baptist went to the Southland Conference, and the rest joined the WAC. (The WAC is now a shadow of its former self.) The new American Athletic Conference consists of five football schools that left the Big East (which now has 7 teams) along with three from Conf USA and one from the Atlantic 10. Notre Dame also left the Big East, for the ACC.
