Dixie Region
Solo I (Time Trial) Events

Solo I events take place on a racetrack or similarly-sized facility and involve much higher speeds than Solo II. As a result, the safety requirements for the vehicle are essentially those for actual road racing. In addition, novice drivers (those without an SCCA Solo I license) can only compete at specially sanctioned events and must have a probationary license.

The Dixie Region does not have a facility suitable for Solo I. The Wiregrass Region puts on a Solo I event at Skelly Field, just West of Enterprise, AL, each year. Local drivers also travel to the Beech Mountain hill climb, Sebring, Road Atlanta, and Roebling Road to compete in Solo I. The Atlanta Region maintains a schedule of Southeast Division track-based events.

Solo I competition is just like the time trials used to determine the qualifying order in most forms of automobile racing. It is done on a permanent or temporary racetrack and speeds can be quite high. Competition is against the clock, so there is no wheel-to-wheel racing, but the risks to person and vehicle are much higher than in Solo II. As a result of this increased risk, the requirements placed on both the vehicle and driver are very strict.
