Europe in 1007 AD

“Who's that then?”

“I dunno, must be a king.”

“Why?”

“He hasn't got shit all over him.”

― Monty Python and the Holy Grail

The setting of this game will be Europe (somewhere in the north-central-west area), in autumn of 1007 AD, except in a word where the monsters and magic of legend are real and not just superstition.

1007 is right on the cusp of the Dark Ages and the Medieval period. I picked this time so that players who wanted to play Dark Ages character types (like a Viking berserkir or runic sorcerer) could play them — though they will be among the last few generations of their kind. On the other hand, players who want to play a Medieval character type (like a chivalric knight, a Robin-hood style outlaw, or a Gandalfesque high sorcerer) can play an early example.

1007 is very early in the Medieval period. Many of the things you may associate with the middle ages are still far in the future. The Great Plague, the Crusades, the Mongol horde, and Marco Polo's journies are all things of the future. This document exists to give players a little more foundation in what is happening in the early 11th century. There are six subcategories:
