GOALS, PURPOSE, and HISTORY
This web site is established and maintained by John Hal Jameson, Jr. and Jameson Family Cemetery, Inc. as a service to the families and friends of the descendants of William Jameson Sr. (born December 17, 1737 in Ireland, died December 23, 1818) who immigrated to America from northern Ireland about 1750. William Jameson Sr. arrived in present-day Spartanburg County, near present-day Landrum, South Carolina, around 1760 and settled along, what came to be called, Jameson's Mill Creek, at the headwaters of Pacolet and Tyger rivers. About 1790, he moved with his family to Pendleton District in present-day Pickens County, just north of present-day Easley, South Carolina.
Like most other settlers in the Carolina backcountry, William was a subsistence farmer. He also operated a brandy mill and likely was a tanner and brickmaker. Prior and during the Revolutionary War, he served in the militia. He served in the Spartan Regiment under Colonel Benjamin Roebuck "after the fall of Charleston" [Charleston fell to the British in May 1780]. Accounts of the Revolutionary War activities at Jameson's Fort (aka "Jameson's Station" and "Old Fort Gowen") in 1780 and 1781 are in the 2003 book "Indians, bloodshed, tears, churches and schools: it all started at Fort Gowen"* and at Rev. War websites such as http://www.sciway.net/hist/amrev/engagements.html and http://www.geocities.com/naforts/sc.html.
William Sr. and his wife Margaret Westmoreland are buried near Jameson Cemetery on privately owned land on Highway 135 near Cross Roads Baptist Church (ref.: Don Jameson). His only son, William Jameson Jr., and wife Rebecca Fowler settled nearby and are buried in Jameson Cemetery.

       • NEW CEMETERY PRESERVATION FUND
The Jameson Family Cemetery, Inc. was formed in 2002 to preserve and protect the Jameson Cemetery, located in Pickens County near Easley, South Carolina. The street address of the cemetery is 517 Jameson Road, Easley, SC. It replaces the trusteeship established by Leo Lake Jameson and Elbert Welborn in 1913. One of its first tasks was to establish the legal boundaries, including a 50 ft. buffer zone, with a modern survey.  The association occassionally organizes special activities and field trips, such as the 2004 group field trip to the William Jameson Sr. settlement site in Spartanburg County, S.C. We strongly encourage interaction and communication among descendant families and invite contributions to this web site. Contributions can be e-mailed to John Jameson at jhjameson@yahoo.com. Please send identifying or labelling information to accompany e-mailed images. For information on directions to the cemetery, contact Don Jameson at (864) 859-7763 or Michael Johnson at (864) 855-3842.

WILLIAM JAMESON SR. ORIGINAL SETTLEMENT SITE
William Jameson Sr. moved here with his family before the Revolutionary War. The site, which includes an early to mid-19th century log cabin and ruins of a mill, is also the possible location of the colonial and Revolutionary War era Jameson's Fort, also known as Jameson's Station and Old Fort Gowen. [See links to May 2005 field trip to second possible fort site, photos and map.] The property is on Jameson's Mill Creek at the Greenville-Spantanburg county line near Landrum, SC. and is presently owned by the Williams family who obtained the property about 1840.
